This 2016 election has brought many hidden facts about our country to the light. It has raised the rugs off the undercurrent of hatred and idolatry. But I serve one that sits high and bends low.
For two years now I have belonged to a prayer ministry that meets Monday through Friday at 5am. The scripture that calls us to order is 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” The mandate for this prayer line is to pray for Washington DC and all the states governmental bodies. The mandate calls forth to have callers from every state on the line to stand in the gap for each state.
This morning as they prayed today, I learned that the elected president was Donald Trump. Upon hearing the spirit took me back into the old testament. A time when the children of God turned away from Him and did evil in His sight. A time when the children of God wanted to be like other nations and have a king. A time when the children of God lusted after Baal and other idols (money, possessions, sexual immorality…). From when the Israelites wanted their first king, they chose him, not base of godly wisdom, but his looks and stature. With other kings, many followed because they believed the way of their forefathers no longer applied to them so they followed leaders into depraved idolatry. Their turn from God, lead them into captivity to garnish their attention to see and repent of what they have done.
Each time, God raised up prophets and leaders to remind them of His ways and decrees. God stayed faithful each time the Israelites free will, took them astray. God has always kept a remnant of His followers through every kingship, every captivity that fell on the knees to continue to pray and worship Him. He called a prophet forth to speak to the ruling parties and His children remind them He is God and though He has permitted such a time, He, the creator and designer of all is still in control.
For the wicked leader since the time of the kingdoms of Israel and many of the kingdoms of Judah, to every leader that took captivity over Israel. God warned and dealt with them. From the handwritten message on the wall during a great feast, to the famine that plagues the nations, to the king who lost his mind after building a bronze statue in his image. To the prophets of the cults whose god could not consume a watery pit with flames. “I AM”, the true and living God showed Himself as the Lord of Lord and Kings of Kings and creator of all things to be true.
But God did this through those who continued to call on His name and believed in the His word, from the cries of Jeremiah to the interpretation through Daniel, the lesson of Hosea and Job, to the reprove of Malachi. God sent messages to His children each time they went astray and told them of their consequences of their actions. There have always been remnants of believers that continue to follow thus sayest the Lord.
Remembering Lessons of Old
This election, it seems many has forgotten the lesson of the past and elected a leader not on truth, morality, or the actual ability to lead, but on selfish, immoral belief and practices. Today the church needs to remember the words of Malachi. Many leaders that supported the next President, should recall God’s Word spoken by Malachi in 2:7-8, “For the lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge because he is the messenger of the Lord Almighty and people seek instruction from his mouth. But you have turned from the way and by your teaching have caused many to stumble; you have violated the covenant with Levi, says the Lord Almighty.”
But for those that argue that Jesus did away with the law of the old testament, I remind you of Matthew 5:17-18, “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved,” (NLT). Why add this, cause the book Jude and Revelation, also warns of false teaching and godless men. But they also give hope for those that do not go astray from God’s promises.
Remember how most of the kings of Judah left the teaching for God as the kings of Israel had. But unlike the kingdom of Israel where all the kings were godless, the kingdom of Judah had some that turn God’s children back to the teachings of the past. King Hezekiah, was such a king, that remember the law and turned his people away from idolatry. As the Assyrians threaten the kingdom of Judah, Hezekiah sought direction and protection from God. First, he asked the prophet Isaiah to speak on the kingdom’s behalf, then he asked as attacks returned, Hezekiah himself laid humbly before the Lord’s altar. In both times God answered his prayers.
Hope for Tomorrow
Today the true believer of the Living Word, those who worship in spirit and in truth, the church that Jesus is returning for needs to be today’s Hezekiah. For our nation has turn from their first love and adopted the lifestyle foreign to the teaching of the old. When Jesus stated in Matthew 16: 18-19, “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven,(ESV).” By the actions of Hezekiah, he showed us in action how to bind the attacks of the enemy to prevent the destruction of the kingdom. Today, we need to bind the greed, the racism, the sexual immorality, the perverseness, idolatry, oppression and hatred that has invaded our conscience, dominated our airwaves and polluted our land ever so much through this election. The saints of old need to return to teaching the young the lessons of the past and lead by example the life a believer should live. But to do any of this, we must return the first scripture that so states how we can regain the ear of our God and turn his wrath away.
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” [2 Chronicles 7:14]
Then we can lay our desperations out before the Lord. Knowing our God will hear us and answer us. We can not fear the Republican control for the next two years, we can not fear the rise of hate that as re-ignited through the propaganda of the elected president rise to fame with the support of those that thought about the lining of their own coffers instead of the damage they were doing to our country. We can not fear as one without hope, direction or promise from the great “I Am”. Jude reminds us of the prediction of old told by the apostles of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh, (Jude 1:17-23)”
It is not a time to mourn but a time to pray and return the Word of God!
